PRODUCT REVIEW: L'oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation

Monday, June 08, 2020

I am not really into foundations when it comes to makeup bases for my daily use. I am more on a BB-cream kind of girl. But when the occasion (or situation) calls for it, I do use foundations too because I think it's the best for full face make up looks.

At the moment, I have 2 different kinds of foundations in my stash and one of them is the L'oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation. L'oreal launched this product in the Philippines a couple of years ago -- and yes, I am a couple of years late too for posting this review, LOL. It wasn't really in my plan to buy this foundation because what I wanted was a different variation from the same infallible line of L'oreal make up products. But when I asked a friend (btw, thank you ate car!) to buy me a L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation (which was what I really wanted) - it was out of stock. I was really running out of a makeup base back then and I badly needed a new one. So when the saleslady at Watson's recommended this, I agreed for her to get it instead of the pro-matte.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

BRAND: L'oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation
SHADE: 308 SUN BEIGE
PURCHASED AT: Watsons
MADE IN: USA
PRODUCT WEBSITE: https://www.loreal.com

PRICE: Php. 700.00

I was honestly hesitant because when I checked on youtube for its reviews, it was 50-50. Some beauty vloggers liked it and some don't. Those who did not like it complained about the same thing: It tends to get cakey. So I just crossed my fingers and hoped that it will work on me just fine.

PACKAGING:

One thing I liked about this product is the packaging: a very light and handy plastic tube that would allow me to squeeze out more product in case I almost run out of it. This is between 5 and 6 inches in length with a black twist-able cap. It may not look that classy and expensive but it sure is very practical which is what I prefer. Very suitable for travels too for it will do just fine even if it was tightly packed in a bag along with the other heavy bulky items - no worries about spills or breakage. The packaging was designed to give you control on how much product you would want to dispense out of it. A product description is also clearly printed at the back for the user's reference. I definitely have no complaints with its packaging. In fact, I kind of hope that foundation packaging is always designed this way.

PRODUCT PERFORMANCE:

When I first tried this foundation, it worked just fine. True to its name, it is indeed a "total cover" - but nothing that other high coverage bases can't achieve. It has a really nice coverage but for some reasons, I am not really "wowed" by the product. After a few days and several tries, I experienced cakey-ness. It has the tendency to get cakey when applied too many layers without proper blending and too much setting powder. Especially when you put this on top of large pores, fine lines or creases - but who doesn't have those imperfections, right? In my opinion, it beats the purpose of its coverage if you'll end up being cakey after building it up.

BEFORE AND AFTER APPLICATION:

The left photo shows the side with the foundation on while the other side is just my bare face. You could see some freckles on my cheeks on the right. I have the same freckles on my left too but it's already decently covered by the product even though I only applied a very thin layer of it. I also just used my hands to apply the foundation for this side by side photo comparison.

WHAT I LOVE:

  • High coverage even on first thin layer.
  • Buildable to cover prominent dark spots.
  • It has a natural matte finish so you may skip setting it with powder.
  • Good longevity.
  • Not too runny texture even if it falls on the "liquid foundation" category.
  • Very practical packaging, good for traveling.
  • Nice shade range to choose from.
  • Has several morena friendly shades on its range.
  • Doesn't oxidize (at least not on me)

Here you could see the consistency of the foundation. Not runny at all. You'll also see here how I can easily control the amount of product to dispense.

WHAT I DON'T LOVE:

  • Tends to get cakey when built up with too much layer.
  • Not suitable for those who have active lifestyle or for those who have to move constantly and sweat a lot. It will cake up the foundation faster.
  • A little bit on the pricey side considering that it's a drug store product.
  • Not really beginner friendly.
  • In my case it didn't really last up to 24 hours as it claims.

WILL I EVER PURCHASE AGAIN?:

Well, here's the catch: I DID NOT really love this foundation because I was oily (used to be) and this product tends to get cakey -- that's quite a "doomed" combo if I may say. BUT I actually figured out a way on how to use this product and I FELL IN LOVE with it since then! Because it has high coverage and "mousse-like" consistency, I decided to use it as my CONCEALER instead of a foundation. Therefore, I don't really apply it on my entire face but just on my cheeks where I have annoying freckles that I need to cover. I also sometimes apply it on my eyelids if I intend to use eyeshadows, a very thin layer on my under-eyes and sometimes I also use it to clean the outline of my brows just like how I would normally do with a regular concealer. It then became one of my daily go-to makeup products for my everyday use. I do have other concealers in my stash that I love but I still kept coming back to this foundation when I want to conceal anything on my face. Now it is almost empty and I couldn't be any happier for being able to use up a product that wasn't really cheap. I feel triumphant for not wasting money on it. I am honestly thinking of buying this again to use it as my concealer. But since there are a lot of new really good concealers out in the market today, I have to try them out as well.

OVERALL RATING:

As a make up foundation: 6/10
As a concealer: 9/10

Will I ever recommend this? If you are looking for a foundation to use, then NO. There are much better drugstore foundations out there for the same price and some are even cheaper. But if you intend to use it as concealer, then YES!

TIPS:

Because it has a mousse-like consistency, it is best applied with a beauty sponge instead of a make up brush. Using a brush will just leave some obvious streaks when not blended properly. But if you're planning on using it as a concealer like what I did, you may apply it with your fingers. Just make sure they're clean!

And that's it! 'Til then, See yah!
